Karen was an animal of a totally different breed. She liked it in every which way. She had the energy to experience it all too. They had stayed all night, on until mid-afternoon the next day. In between the sweat and the lust they had talked. They talked a lot. By the time they were done talking he not only knew Karen much better. He knew Kyann much better as well.
T - Baby walked in the cell his face and T-shirt was sweaty. He went to the sink and wiped water over his face. “What’s good baby? How was the visit?”
“Oh it was great. Where you coming from the yard?”
“Naw. They opened the gym.”
“The gym?”
“Yeah. I heard somebody got stabbed at morning rec so they got the yard closed right now.”
“Damn. I wonder who it was. I don’t like that gym shit, cause they be switching up the housing units and everybody don’t be getting to the gym at the same time. I need to see Kevin Sails about something. Did you see him in the gym?”
“Naw. I seen his little man Petey though.”
“Damn. I gotta get a kite over to his housing unit.”
“What’s good? You act like somethin’ bout to jump. I can try to go to medical during chow movement for another asthma inhaler, and slip over to his unit.”
He looked at the young boy he had started to grow fond of. Could he really trust him to take a kite to Kevin Sails for him? He wasn’t part of his clique. In fact he was from the other side. Not only that. He was part of a generation he had only been able to observe in captivity. The things they did on the streets and what was acceptable now as oppose to when he was out there bumping and grinding was different.
In the prison he controlled them as they came in, making them understand the rules he set forth in the society they had now entered. But he never lost sight that he was a piece, and it was his moves that would determine what piece he would become. Everything came down to a choice based on situation. A great chess player never ever feels like he has no choice. Cause at that point he was moving his character into threat.
“I saw Bolo in the gym earlier too.”
He was pulled from his thoughts on decision. “Who is Bolo?” Pawn asked.
“He’s the one they got for hittin’ the girl and dude we saw on the news the other night. I tole you that was the ones who had tole on ya blood Peanut.”
Pawn remembered seeing the story on the news the other night about the woman and man being shot in an apartment, where there was an infant child. He had been seeing so many shootings on the news since he had been in the county it just fell in with the rest.
“Didn’t they say that was a robbery and they were looking for another suspect?”
“Yeah. He said Mitch left town.
